How to become an SEO expert.

These tidbits of information were told to me by Tim Schmidt, a SEO in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  I heard him speak at a conference in Nashville, TN, and these notes are what I took away from the event.

In recent years, due to the increasing power wielded by search engines like google, Search engine optimization or SEO has emerged as an important industry. Companies try to raise their rankings on Search Engine Results Pages (SERP). To accomplish this target, they seek assistance from specialized marketing professionals and SEO specialists.

These SEO specialists are tasked with designing, developing, maintaining and promoting high quality websites.  SEO specialists are not usually the builders of the website, but a consulting buff.

SEO specialists are indicted with a number of responsibilities, depending on the company and industry, within which they work.  SEO specialists who work, whether, as freelancers or within a marketing firm, should have knowledge of some basic skills:

Analytical processing– The Internet is a complex, dynamic environment that requires constant analysis and evaluation.  The research component of a SEO professional’s responsibilities can easily grow into a full time job.

As the name signifies, a SEO specialist may focus on a specific part of search engine optimization. Along with the above mentioned skills required for you to become an SEO expert, you must have an experience or a strong command on following:

  1. Content writing: producing quality content gets you noticed by the audience who keeps coming back for your page consequently affecting your page ranking.
  2. Link building: initially, this was the first major ranking factor used by the search engines, as links remain most important external signal for search rankings.
  3. Researching the web: the features and data constantly upgrades, a good researcher would always keep up with the new knowledge and maintains the content.
